Blob watch returns to the Atlantic, Pacific isn’t.

After a few hours of no blobs on the NHC Tropical Weather Outlook, two low probability blobs returned to keep the clicks going for the doomscrolling community.

The disturbance formerly known as Dolly is continuing towards the northern Caribbean. The environment is pretty hostile, and it’s an open wave right now despite the circular appearance on the satellite image. Here’s what the winds look like (left), compared to the now mature Karina in the East Pacific (right):

I think the main reason NHC has former Dolly on the TWO is it will bring wind and rain to the region – as long as no flash floods, that’s a good thing to help with the drought. There is some small potential it could spin up again in the Bahamas, but that’s a ways off and no reason for Florida or the SEUS to freak out or wear out the refresh key.

The thing in the Gulf isn’t even an Invest or anything, nothing to worry about at this point (or likely ever). Might rain along the coast.

The Pacific remains busy, but all the storms and blobs are well offshore and should stay that way. Lowell will pass south of Hawai’i and should send waves up that way for seriously experienced pro level surfers.

West Pacific also has an interesting interaction between two storms, well offshore, with Bang-Land tearing apart Etau …
