Busy in the West Pacific this morning …
Typhoon Dolphin looks to have passed north of Okinawa this evening (morning US East Coast time):
The bases there are essentially on lock-down until the storm passes. The storm is weaker and the core of winds smaller than a few days ago, but still estimated to cause between $2 and $3 Billion in damage across the Ryukyu Islands and in a couple of days China …
To the north, Tropical Storm Chan-Hom is a large but diffuse system that will be crossing the northern third of Japan in a couple of days. If this forecast holds up it will be more of an annoyance than a major damage threat.
Elsewhere, couple of invest areas in the East Pacific, but much to the distress of weather-doomers in the CONUS the Atlantic is quiet. The heart of hurricane season is coming, and it is likely there will be clouds for them to talk about soon.
