Big earthquake near Japan, no tsunami (20 Apr 2026)

There was a mangitude 7.4 earthquake off the coast of Japan this morning ET …

The big fear from events in that location is another tsunami like the 2011 Tohoku earthquake that caused over $300 million USD and the Fukushima nuclear disaster. This time the geometry of the rupture is such that a major Tsunami does not seem likely,

Unfortunately the forecasts were right and we got nothing for rain. My soil moisture sensor is now bottomed out at at 200 cb, which is basically the same value you get if you bake all of the moisture out of the soil.
