NHC is watching two invests this afternoon, both of which seem to be spinning up:
The one in the southern Gulf of Whatever may become a depression as early as today as it skirts the Mexican coastline, and may become a tropical storm – in fact, NHC is considering raising watches and warnings later today, and I expect we will have TD AL02 (or at least PTC AL02) by 5pm ET. The one on the other side, in the Pacific, is also organizing rapidly and advisories should start at 5pm, 11pm at the latest as EP06.
If you are on either coast of Mexico (especially the Gulf coast), you should probably pay attention.
I’ve had quite a few people ask me about recent changes at NWS and DOD, including the shut down of DODs microwave sensor satellites, and NWS discontinuing a number of models. It’s such a politically charged subject that is filled with misinformation and misdirection that it’s hard to know where to start, and I’m pretty sure what I write will probably annoy just about everybody in either political borgata (“family,” in the mafia sense). But it’s such an important issue I am working on a post about it. Stay tuned.
