Secondary streets in many of the areas across the deep south remain hazardous. While a lot of roads are now clear, there are some deceptive problems out there. This shot at 7am in mid town Savannah shows the problem …

… because we had some clouds roll through yesterday, combined with the trees, some shaded areas didn’t completely melt and evaporate. The cross street I was standing on was essentially clear. With temperatures in the mid to low 20’s overnight, because of surface melt these areas are now hard, slick ice. At least you can easily see this bit; other areas, especially from a car, are invisible.
It looks like today will be sunny, with temperatures going above freezing around 9am, and low humidity, all of which means bad news for the remaining snowmen unless Elsa gives them their own flurry. Most of the remaining areas should be clear by noon, but in some heavily shaded, low traffic areas ice on the roads may survive even in to tomorrow.
As you emerge from your hibernation, be very careful. Don’t get duped by the areas that have dried out, there have been lots of accidents in the region. Take it slow, be patient, and resist the urge to floor it and go around somebody driving slowly – this time, they just might have a reason besides ordering pizza on their cell phone …

Thank you so much for all of the updates and practical info. Love all the Elsa references, too. 😊
This is the first time that those “bridge freezes before road” signs all over the place have actually been useful 🙂 Everywhere the Truman is raised it’s still covered in piles of ice and is very wet. Will likely freeze once more tonight before it’s all gone. The folks in front of me would forget, then SLAM on the brakes when they hit one of these sections, then go fast again. Which is the exact opposite of what you want to do in those situations. Luckily the wet parts were only wet but in about 5 hours that wont be the case.
