Tropics updates and Election outlook update (26 Oct)

Still tracking storms around the world … Kristy is weakening off the coast of Mexico …

as always, click any image to embiggen.

Dana went ashore in India, causing some damage and power outages but no reports of casualties thus far …

Tropical Storm Trami is doing a loop in the South China Sea, after passing over the Philippines causing significant damage and loss of life. At least 82 reported dead so far in flooding and mudslides. The storm is disrupting sea and air traffic in China and Vietnam, and unfortunately longer range forecasts take it or it’s remnants back across the Philippines in 7-8 days. Kong Rey is presently a tropical storm, but is forecast to become a Saffir-Simpson Category 3 storm as it heads towards either Taiwan (GFS solution) or Japan (ECM solution). The JTWC track shown on the satellite map above splits the difference. Will have to wait and see. Speaking of which …

At the moment, the U.S. Election Day outlook seems better – GFS and ECM both now show any potential system being caught up in a passing cold front and crossing Hispaniola and being carried out to sea. As noted in yesterday’s post, this is why I really don’t like to talk about storms so far out – there is way too much uncertainty, and for every time you say “somethings brewing”, there are probably five or six other times nothing happens.

Still, if you can take advantage of early voting this year, makes sense to do so. Especially if you are voting Bill and Opus …

And of course the burning issue of our time, two spaces after the period!
