First tropical storm of the season; snow watch continues

Bet you didn’t see that coming! There is a storm spinning up in the West Pacific:

Tropical Depression 01W, aka Nokaen, has formed off the coast of the Philippines. A bit early, but not unheard of. Here’s the forecast impact swath, which will hopefully stay offshore:

Elsewhere, there is a cyclone (hurricane) in the southern Indian Ocean (it’s their normal season), but Dudzai is far from everything.


The latest snowmageddon forecast (which, again, isn’t worth a lot because we won’t really have a solid forecast for Sunday snow until Friday). The axis of snow has shifted inland in the latest forecasts, with only rain and maybe a frozen mix edging in to the coastal counties. FWIW here is the 06Z GFS run, not bothering with pretty maps until tomorrow …
