Merry Christmas!

The weather for Christmas looks pretty nice, if a bit mild, at least for the Southeast and central US. The West and mountains look messy, as does the northeast, with some freezing rain possible in Pennsylvania. Here’s a four-panel map showing precipitation (upper left), type (upper right – blue is snow, green is rain, red is freezing rain mix). Lower left is CAPE/CIN (storminess index), lower right is snow depth.

So if you’re looking for snow, you have to go to the Rockies or far north … here a fancier snow depth map for Christmas Day (one of the new maps I’m working on):

Unless something dramatic happens, next post after Western Christmas. Bjarki has not as of yet destroyed the dining room table centerpiece, but he’s certainly contemplating crime …

Hope everyone has a great holiday season!
