One more cold snap for the coast (20 Feb 2025)

For those in the Frogmore Metroplex (Coastal GA/SC), the cold front that brought rain yesterday and clouds this morning will clear and temperatures will drop to below freezing overnight. Here is the WSFO Charleston (46.1 miles northeast of Frogmore) graphic summary announcing a cold weather advisory for tonight:

Looking at the temperature profile for Daffin Park (in midtown Savannah, 38.3 miles south west of Frogmore), temperatures should go below freezing at midnight, and not recover until between 9 and 10am Friday. Here is the hour by hour plot of temperature and wind (and precipitation, but that’s boring):

Winds are forecast to be light, but enough to drop the wind chill temperatures to 20F or lower – at 8am Friday morning the wind chill is forecast to be only 17F.

So what does it mean? It’s been warm, so probably not necessary to drip pipes in any structures with the heat on like most homes. I’d drain hoses or outside irrigation, and anything with insulation should be ok, I’m mostly worried about the vegetation that thought spring had sprung and is starting to bud. Be sure to cover or bring in anything that might be damaged.

Of course, pets, humans, and the cats who rule them should be inside tonight.
