GA/SC severe weather sunday?

Seeing some angst about severe weather potential tomorrow (Sunday 29 Dec). Certainly things are a bit busy in TX/LA today, with tornado watches and some warnings at just after 3pm ET:

As usual click any image to embiggen.

Lot of lightning in those systems:

As of Saturday afternoon, the forecast is for a weak band of thunderstorms to pass through the Frogmore Metroplex (coastal GA/SC, from Fort Stewart to Charleston) around 7am, followed by a stronger band around 1pm …

HRRR forecast for 7am ET, Sunday 29 December 2024. weak band passing through, stronger band at that point just past Mos Eisley, um, Atlanta.

Inland areas like Statesboro will see it 30-45 minutes earlier. As usual, forecasting the exact time and intensity of these sorts of things more than a few hours in advance is tricky, but the most likely impacts are some heavy rain and strong winds, maybe some thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has the region at “slight” risk for anything dangerous; the parameters are not nearly as favorable for anything hazardous on the coast as inland. For Atlanta area main front should pass through in the early morning hours, 3-6 AM, might get windy and WSFO/Peachtree City says “environment would certainly support a damaging wind threat as well as a brief tornado threat.”

Mid Town Savannah has had right at 2″ of rain, so the area is saturating which means street flooding will be inevitable with any significant rain amounts. Looks like we might get another inch or two overnight and tomorrow, isolated spots in a thunderstorm could get double that.
