As the first full week of the Northern Hemisphere Hurricane season draws to a close (well, in the Atlantic, the Pacific season starts May 15th), Tropical Storm (formerly Typhoon) Jangmi is fading out after raining on Japan and causing some disruptions and power outages after brushing by there. Minimal impacts on the US bases in Okinawa were reported despite the direct hit. Tropical Storm Amanda is making a brief appearance in the central Pacific, far from land. Atlantic is boring.
Here’s the big picture views in each area. First the remnants of Jangmi northeast of Japan …

And here is Amanda, who didn’t exactly take us by surprise, but did make us realize it’s hurricane season. And while tomorrow is far away, it will probably reach peak strength then fade away:

Two other disturbances off the coast of Mexico are being watched, the Orange Blobs of Doom (OBOD)on the right of the image.
As noted, the Atlantic view is empty (the OBODs on the left belong to the Pacific), nothing likely to spin up over the next week or so, conditions not favorable yet:
