Finally a good soaking rain? TS Hagupit update.

It looks like the southeast and, more importantly (or at least selfishly) coastal GA/SC will get a couple days of rain with accumulations over 2″ expected across a broad area. Here’s the GFS based forecast total for this weekend through mid-week:

There isn’t much severe risk here (perhaps a typical thunderstorm or two). Oklahoma might get some today, but tomorrow there is a significant risk of severe weather. Here are the outlooks from SPC:

This morning lightning is visible across the southeast as the front stalls out. This is Lightning Mapper data over the last few hours (4am to 6am) from GOES East …

And here is the current radar. Nothing in OK now, but stuff should develop this afternoon.

So bottom line is this should be a big help in doing something about the drought. But as warned, it will take many more 1-2″ events spaced out over several weeks to fix this. Fortunately the longer range forecasts show a period of wetter weather.

Tropical Storm Hagupit continues on track east of The Philippines. Not a bit threat, but here’s the JTWC forecast, model tracks, and my TAOS/Lachesis model impact estimates.
