The ultimate problem: governance

In between snowmageddons, icypocalypses, and other such shenanigans by nature, my main concern is that humans simply don’t seem to be capable of governing themselves. Each US Administration seems worse than the last, Congress is a dysfunctional mess, state and local governments aren’t a lot better. Worse, society has become fragmented in to camps armed with their own incompatible versions of reality and no longer talk to one another – they just shout and call each other names. The international situation is little better, with so-called “democracies” across the globe doing things previously reserved for authoritarian regimes. Why is this, and what can we do about it?

A humorous illustration of a wild-looking cat with exaggerated features, accompanied by the text: 'IF WE ARE EVER IN A SITUATION WHERE I AM THE "VOICE OF REASON" THEN WE ARE IN A VERY VERY BAD SITUATION.'

Last week Nate Hagens moderated a round-table discussion on this subject with Mark Medish, an individual I hold in the highest esteem. It’s well worth listening to. I may have spoken occasionally as well, but that’s what the mute button is for 😛
