Just some brief notes this morning, a bit swamped. As a reminder, NHC’s Key messages regarding Hurricane Erin (en Español: Mensajes Claves) are the best “quick look” at the storm. Although Erin is well offshore, it is such a big storm that tropical storm watches and warnings are up for the outer banks of North Carolina as well as parts of the DELMARVA peninsula …

If you aren’t physically on the beach, Erin isn’t a problem. The risk from Erin is heavy surf and rip currents, and that applies to most of the US East Coast at this point. If you are on vacation at the beach, get up early and watch the Moon, Venus, and Jupiter forming a bright triangle in the morning sky then go back to bed 😛 … the earthshine (the part of the moon lit up from the reflection of the sun off of the earth) is especially pretty this morning:

The two invest areas in the Atlantic aren’t a threat at the moment, and it’s starting to look like they won’t be in the future either ( #1 might be a problem for Bermuda) but check back in a couple of days anyway.

Tropical Depression 18 is hitting southern Japan today, mostly rain.

Chuck, I appreciate you so much , yes, your expertise re: all things weather, but also your wisdom … and humor!! Thank you
PS very cool info about the stars and moon. I hadn’t heard that term before.

Thank you for including the Delmarva area. Watching the CBBT site anxiously, looks like tomorrows chances of shutting it down is high, but so far Friday showing clear. 😀 Can’t miss grandma’s 100th.
It will probably get to level 1 tomorrow, maybe (maybe) level 2, but I don’t think it will hit shut down criteria (level 3). Either way, yes, Friday should be OK as long as nothing breaks that shouldn’t.
Thanks so much for your insight, Chuck. You are definitely right about the beauty of Venus, Jupiter and the moon in the mornings. It’s been gorgeous for the last few days.
