ZOMG! It’s Orange! (2 July 2025)

Last night the National Hurricane Center (NHC) changed the odds of tropical development of the disturbance that is projected (maybe) to form from a frontal boundary stalled across North Florida to 40%. That changes the color on most depictions from yellow to orange.

ARE YOU DOOMED? Sorry, but if in the southeastern U.S. although it will rain, you will still be required to burn meat outside in celebration of a document that expresses ideas that are increasingly ignored in modern America. It is important to realize a system can have tropical characteristics but is not dangerous, or much of a threat to become dangerous. This system might become a depression, it looks to drop a lot of rain, but is unlikely to develop in to something with dangerous winds. Notice that in the latest NHC Tropical Weather Outlook, they do not have any “magic words” – interests in <someplace> should <do something>. They aren’t even saying “monitor” at this point. So they aren’t worried about this, and neither should you.

Elsewhere, Hurricane Flossie is moving away from Mexico so the watches and warnings have been dropped. For the official word, Key messages regarding Hurricane Flossie (en Español: Mensajes Claves). It should start to weaken, and doesn’t look to have significant impacts …

In the West Pacific, there is a new depression (TD 4) and an invest area, neither look to be a problem at this point:

    1. A few years ago I started to write a blog post on how many Federal laws would be violated by expressing the ideas in the Declaration. Never published it, was too depressing.
