Helene makes landfall

Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm and is rapidly moving into Georgia …

The eyewall is crossing Valdosta at this hour (12:30am), and severe damage is likely across the region. It is decaying rapidly, but also moving rapidly. Nothing really to add to yesterday’s pre-landfall posts, things seem on track from an impact forecast standpoint.

Still at least one more band of rain to moving through coastal GA, winds should peak between 2 and 3am. Hopefully no more tornado warnings but one or two more as that last band of convection moves through are possible. Rain total in Midtown Savannah 4.74″ so far.

  1. I live on the southside–Coffee Bluff area. A HUGE tree fell behind my neighbor’s property last night–totally uprooted. Luckily, it barely missed falling on their home.

  2. Off Topic: Do we not feel that Isaac was a poor choice of storm names? At least it did not head to Galveston…
