PTC One to become Alberto; blob stalks the Southeast

Potential Tropical Cyclone One should become Alberto later today. Still no deep convection (thunderstorms) near the center, it’s a broad swirl of clouds on satellite this morning, but it is getting better organized …

It probably won’t be much more than a minimal tropical storm, but it’s such a big system the rain will be widespread and parts of Texas are already soaked. Flash flooding is the main risk. As always, check NHC’s Key Messages regarding Potential Tropical Cyclone One (en Español: Mensajes Claves) for updates and the latest reliable info.

NHC’s formation probabilities on the 5am GOES East IR view

Elsewhere, NHC continues to show a Yellow Blob of Doom menacing the SC/GA/FL coastline. Now down to 20% formation chance, it’s not likely to do anything. Confusingly, the yellow blob in the Gulf at 30% has nothing to do with Alberto, but something that may form early next week in it’s trail.

Have some family business to take care of today, next update hopefully tomorrow as we watch the Alberto landfall.
