There are no tropical cyclones anywhere in the world, not even any suspicious areas. Which is good because the geopolitical situation is on the verge of catastrophe again, but sadly we can’t talk about that. So let’s look at some satellite data, including a spectacular solar flare this morning. First, here is a view of Georgia and South Carolina using a special combination of wavelengths designed to detect heat signatures and fire:

You can see most of the major cities, I’ve labeled a few of them, see how many others you can find.
The sun continues to spew as it heads towards the next peak of activity, probably in 2025. This view from the GOES SUVI camera is from early Saturday Morning:

There is a moderate geophysical storm in progress, and there may be auroras visible across the far northern US states tonight. The South won’t likely see anything, but the solar activity will likely increase later this year and in to next so we will likely get other opportunities to see the clouds and dream of what it might look like 😛
I do feel I have to at least say a few words about the geopolitical situation. The lack of understanding between the three major powers is the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime. What I mean by that is that the US leadership literally does not understand that of either Russia or China, especially Russia, and doesn’t seem to be even trying. US analysts simply do not seem to understand what Russia is doing, and seem incapable of seeing things from their point of view. Note I’m not saying we can or should agree (to be clear, often I don’t). But if you want to deal with another country you need to understand their perspective and why they think the way they do, and have some grasp on reality even if you don’t share it with the public for whatever reasons.
I think a big part of the problem is that US and Western politicians have gotten so used to saying what they want people to think they believe, rather than what they actually believe, it simply never occurs to them that when a foreign leader says something there is not some deception or subtext involved. And they’ve painted themselves in to a rhetorical and political corner.

Boring is good although my veggies say 24 hours of gentle rain would be lovely.
Same here, had to turn on the drip irrigation last night, and still everybody looks wilted.
Thanks for the continuing comments on the sun’s activity. Each “issue” is entertaining and educational. While I don’t always agree with your conclusions or poistions on some issues, your comments about the lack of communication of other countries’ interests by western politicians (IMO they are not leaders) are appropriate. Whether they actually do understand but don’t share it with the public (because they think we’re too stupid or uninformed) or don’t understand in the first place makes no difference. The results are the same.
