Fire in Clinch County near Okefenokee Swamp

If you’re on the GA coast and wondering why the sky is reddish-brown and it smells like something is burning, it’s due to smoke from a fire in Clinch County …

The “Pineland Road Fire” is over 7,000 acres right now. Winds are bringing the smoke up and across the coast, and in to South Carolina. There is another fire near Waynesville. Georgia/SC are super dry right now so please be careful with any outdoor burns.

  1. Thank you! I was wondering how close it was to Savannah. Walked the dog and smelled it strongly.

  2. It was quite intense early this morning at Tybee, I jumped up to see if I could see what was burning. I appreciate knowing the cause very much! Thank you!

  3. Will El Nino ( if it develops as they predict) help our rain situation? After the flooding in August 2025, I was ready for dry, but not this dry!
