The much anticipated nor’easter and snowstorm has started spinning up overnight, with heavy snowfall starting in the Carolinas …

As the system moves south and east (before turning up the coast), first rain then snow will push across the rest of Georgia and South Carolina, reaching the Frogmore Metroplex (see this post for a geography lesson).
The forecast has been pretty stable since Thursday, with the Savannah area getting about an inch of snow, with amounts increasing as you move north and west. On timing and amounts, here are a few graphics swiped from the NWS point forecast system to help plan your day. The top line shows rain chances, then thunderstorms (none here), then snow, freezing rain, and sleet – thankfully those last two are not likely in this system:

And a couple of points further inland …

At this point we’re in wait an see mode. Will post some updates as the snow moves in. As noted before, unlike last year, this will be real snow, not just ice pellets, so enjoy it! (but don’t plan on driving in it, most people aren’t experienced, and very few cars have the right kind of tires – wait until the roads clear). Also be very careful on sidewalks, etc. for ice, especially Sunday and Monday. While this won’t be an ice storm, there will potentially be an ice layer under the snow because of the rain before the snow and the warm surfaces that will melt it before cooling.

Thank you so much! As always! I really appreciate your insight without random clickbaitery. I also enjoyed laughing at myself this morning as I tried to find out where Jundland Waste was in my area… If only I had read about ATL I would have gotten the joke….
Considering that Frogmore is the Center of All the Things, and Atlanta airport is Mos Eisley (as anyone who has had to pass through knows it is a “wretched hive of scum and villainy”), then the ‘boro is clearly the Jundland wastes in between 😛
Thank you for always being the voice of reason in a crowd of clickbaiters and attention hogs:)
Hi, i’m currently in Orlando and heading back home tomorrow to Effingham County. do you have any advice about what time I should leave here on Sunday?
Ack, may not be a good travel day. NWS/Charleston just warned that there will be limited melt tomorrow and refreeze Sunday night. Try to time it so you get back before 4pm, after than thngs will be cooling down and whatever melted will re-freeze. Take it slow once you get into the snow zone (north of Darien/Hinesville most likely).
I can leave as early as I need to. I’ll plan to leave around 8 AM. Thanks for the information. I’m not lookingi forward to it, but I have no choice. Thanks again
