Sunday morning update

Quick update for Sunday morning, it has started snowing in eastern Alabama and North Georgia. Here is the precipitation type map for the US at just before 6 am …

Temps have trended a couple of degrees warmer in coastal GA/SC (better known as the Frogmore Metroplex), so no snow or ice accumulations are expected. Maybe some flurries but I doubt even that, most likely just cold rain all day as the moist air from the Gulf is dragged up by the approaching cold front …

Fancy new graphic soon to appear on the Frogmore Weather Page.

Any accumulations of snow or ice today should stay well inland – even the Statesboro wastelands no longer looks to get anything significant. The North Frogmore (Charleston) NWS office “reasonable worst cast scenario” as of 4:30am this morning only showed a trace …

Map illustrating a reasonable worst case scenario for snow accumulation, showing areas with up to a 10% chance of 0.5-1 inch of snowfall. Includes details on potential impacts and melting conditions.

Overnight it’s going to drop into the 20s even near the coast, so if the roads stay wet be aware for slick patches in the morning.

The main axis for potential snow has shifted more towards Southwest Georgia, although the Macon area and I-16/I-75 collision zone look to still have the potential for a good bit of snow. The Winter Weather Warning is still up for that area this morning:

Map of winter weather warnings and advisories in Central Georgia, indicating snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches in the warning area and up to 1 inch in the advisory area. Advisories highlight expected slippery roads and suggest altering travel plans.

So best not to go towards Atlanta today (good advice any day, actually). If you have to, as the advisory says, afternoon is better, but before 9 pm or so when re-freeze is possible.
