Tropics Overview and Atlantic ZOMG! 2 August 2025

There are several tropical storms stalking the earth, but none are a risk at the moment (or likely ever). Moving from West to East, Krosa is fading northeast of Japan, while TD13 is spinning up but should stay offshore. Iona, who passed south of Hawai’i, was downgraded this afternoon and JTWC was stopped tracking it …

IR since it’s night over the West Pacific. click any image to embiggen (yes, embiggen is in the OED so get over it 😛 )

In the Central and East Pacific, Gil was briefly a hurricane but has started declining, and should fade northeast of Hawai’i. No word on the rest of the Swill Brothers (Wil, Bil, or Phil). There are two other invest areas but anything spinning up should stay offshore.

The prevailing winds will blow anything that might form out to sea, so nothing to worry about unless you are involved with fish, fish related activities, or shipping.

lower level wind streamlines; anything off NC will be blown in to the orange area, which is unfavorable for storm formation.
