Oscar fell apart yesterday afternoon, with the debris already well out to sea. There is one storm on each side of the Pacific, Hurricane Kristy is off the coast of Mexico and looks to become a major hurricane, but is headed away from land …

Tropical Storm Trami is over the Philippines, mostly a rain event with the risks of flash flooding (and note that’s not being dismissive: as we have seen, rain is causing most of the hurricane impacts this year). Tropical Storm Dana, in the Indian Ocean, is headed towards India.

The NHC Tropical Weather Outlook is blank, although the longer range forecasts show potential development the usual suspects might try to hype, nothing to get excited about at the moment.
Still in the midst of doing some delayed Helene repairs and reconfiguration. The tree contractor did a nice job cleaning up our beloved Magnolia and hopefully it will survive despite losing the top 1/3 to a 72 mph gust, all the solar panels are back online, two of the three satellite feeds are back to normal (the GOES-West feed is still a bit iffy but data is coming in, as seen in the cover image). You’ll note no economic loss estimates at the moment, restarting the big data servers today as the power supply work wraps up.
Again a reminder not to forget the people in North Carolina, East Tennessee, and Florida who are recovering from much much worse – local impacts were inconvenient, there the impacts are catastrophic. And Cuba saw a lot of impacts from Oscar, although trying to help there is problematic due to sanctions. The Acapulco area of Mexico is still a mess, it never recovered from Otis, then was hit by severe flooding from the decaying Hurricane John in late September.
