The fissure northeast of Grindavik has re-opened with an impressive eruption starting overnight …

This one is even ejecting material, in some cases 3-5 km from the fissure! It is very light, glass-like pyroxene that can be blown some distance in the wind. It’s not as fine as ash, but can create a mess as it is quite sharp and has to be blown or washed away rather than wiped. This eruption is farther away from town that the one a few weeks ago, and may not last long.
